Brainrot words, translated for humans

If a child near you says words that sound like a dial-up modem having feelings, this page is your interpreter. Plain definitions, zero judgment, one honest note on when to actually worry (spoiler: rarely).

brain rot / brainrot

Slang for low-value, addictive internet content — and the slang you use after consuming too much of it. Oxford's Word of the Year 2024. The "Italian brainrot" meme wave gave the word a whole genre.

Italian brainrot

The 2025 TikTok genre of AI-generated hybrid creatures (shark-in-sneakers, croc-bomber…) with Italian-sounding names and robotic Italian voiceovers. Not actually Italian — see our guide.

Tung Tung Tung Sahur

The wooden-log character with a bat; name imitates the drum call to the Ramadan pre-dawn meal. The genre's biggest star.

rizz

Charisma, especially flirty charisma. Short for "charisma" itself. A rizz-off is a charm competition; "W rizz" means it worked.

sigma

A "lone wolf" archetype: confident and successful without needing approval. Usually ironic in kid usage — calling your friend "such a sigma" is 80% joke, 20% aspiration.

aura

General cool-points meter. "He lost aura" = something embarrassing happened. Points are imaginary but the social damage is real.

67 / six seven

A number meme from 2025–2026 school culture (two gestures, one punchline). Meaningless on purpose — that IS the joke. Parents asking "but why 67?" have already lost.

skibidi

Originated in the "Skibidi Toilet" YouTube series (2023); now a general nonsense adjective. "Skibidi" + anything = brainrot grammar.

Ohio

Slang for something weird or cursed — "only in Ohio." The state of Ohio has been fully memorized by Gen Alpha as a concept.

fanum tax

When a friend (originally streamer Kai Cenat's friend Fanum) takes a bite of your food. "Paying the fanum tax" = letting them.

NPC

Video-game "non-player character." Used for people who act scripted or for NPC livestreams where creators repeat catchphrases for gifts.

mewing

A tongue-posture jawline technique turned meme: "can't talk, mewing." Usually a joke about vanity, sometimes an actual (unproven) habit.

canon

Official story material. Brainrot fans argue constantly about which characters are "canon" — new viral creatures become canon when enough accounts adopt them.

clan names (-ini families)

Fan wikis organize characters into clans like Foodini, Animalini, Cosmicini, Bombardini. Our generator uses the same clan system for original creatures.

Steal a Brainrot

The Roblox game built on the characters — collect them, steal them from other players' bases. Set a world record with 25.8M concurrent players in Oct 2025.

sahur

Not slang at all: the pre-dawn Ramadan meal (suhur). The drumming in the TTTS meme honors the real "sahur callers" who wake neighborhoods for it.

Should you actually worry?

Mostly, no. Slang like this is a social handshake — kids use it to signal belonging, and every generation has had its version (ask someone about "radical" or "on fleek"). The genuinely useful checkpoints are the platforms, not the vocabulary: TikTok and Roblox require users to be 13+ in most countries, and both offer parental controls. If the slang is coming from those apps and your child is under that age, that's the real conversation.

For younger fans who just like the funny wooden log, this site keeps things tame: try the printable coloring pages or the synthesized drum instead of the platform apps. And when you're ready to speak fluent brainrot yourself, the name generator will have you coining clan names in seconds.
